Diner 77

I last visited Diner 77 20 years ago and booked a table for six for my son's 16th birthday because he adores burgers.  The waitress was absolutely lovely but otherwise I found it really disappointing. Our table hadn't even been wiped and was covered in salt. The food took 40 minutes to be served up which I think is too long - burgers were nice but I've had better for less money. the place itself not very inspiring or interesting. I think for a real burger diner experience Eddie Rockets in Swansea is amazing - juke boxes on the tables and real plush seating. Sorr,y Diner 77 just didn't hit the mark for me.

I've been coming here regularly over the years.  I remember my first visit quite clearly.   I remember the decor and the amazing food and desserts. I'm glad to say not a lot's changed.

This popular American-style diner is tiny, and often rammed full of customers feasting on their fantastic burgers. An American 'burger bar' might not seem like the obvious choice for a themed restaurant in posh Pontcanna, but it's been going down a treat for many years, and that's because they do what they do so well.

I went here because a friend recommended it but I found it too busy and a little overpriced for what I got. I got a burger and chips which did the job but i have had better for less money.

This is truly a great restarant. It took me far to long to discover this place, seeing as I was living just around the corner, but now that I have, I finally understand burgers.

Ian Campell, the owner of Diner 77, is an incredibly personable fellow. There's something about the people that own businesses in the Pontcanna district, and on Pontcanna Street in particular... they are just the most lovely, laid back and chatty bunch of people. Ian is no exception. I love it!

I seriously have to commend Diner 77 for the vegetarian burger selection. As Sarah says, we're lucky if we even get one on a menu and for them to actually be tasty and not plasticky and bland is an absolute god send.

Sometimes a man just need meat. Meat and buns, man needs them both otherwise they wouldn't of been invented surely?

I'm almost loathe to recommend Diner 77, as due to its size and local popularity you always need to call and reserve a table in advance. But that would be a crime in itself, as I just love everything about this restaurant. It may be small (I don't believe there's more than ten tables), but the burgers here are just out of this world! The menu is so extensive, and as a vegetarian I can't get over the fact that they have a variety of vegi burger options (I'm usually lucky if there's just one). It is so nice to be able to eat American style food that is well made and not mass produced, you really don't need too worry about your health when eating here. The American diner theme is fully embraced on the drinks front to, include milkshakes which are great, and I've yet to find anywhere else in Cardiff that serves coke floats. Although Diner 77 is not in town, it is close by and is most certainly worth a visit, just make sure to book in advance.
