© Food & Drink Guide Located just two miles from the world famous York racecourse, Maxis Chinese Restaurant provides a most authentic oriental experience in both dcor and cuisine.We decided on the set menu for two from an impressive and reasonably priced menu that focuses mainly on Cantonese and Peking-style dishes. Our meal began with a substantial but delicately flavoured crab soup laced with strands of egg and dotted with sweetcorn, followed by a plate of prawn toast and crispy wontons with sweet and sour sauce.The main course comprised three wonderfully aromatic dishes served on large oval platters, the first being tender chicken with stir-fried oriental vegetables. Deep-fried battered pork in a tangy sweet and sour sauce came next, quickly followed by the mildly spicy and unquestionably rich beef with chilli and black bean sauce. An abundance of yeung chow fried rice was served to accompany what revealed itself as an extremely generous meal for just two people.A well-stocked international wine list and extensive dessert menu enhance and complete any combination of dishes, while nothing seems too much trouble for the polite, attentive waiting staff.With such an impressive range of high quality, traditional oriental cuisine, the Norths premier name in Chinese eating certainly lives up to its lofty reputation.
