Anchor Square Canons Road, Bristol BS1 5UH
© Food & Drink Guide In the vivacious Anchor Square complex youll find the modern, glass front of Tikka Flame. The cool contemporary design and outside tables entice you into this first-class Indian eatery, but its the quality of food and service that will make you stay and want to visit time and time again. My companion and I were shown to a table near the glass front of the restaurant, where we had a good view of the whole dining area. We could see into the open plan kitchens, where chefs were busy and fantastic aromas were emerging. The decor here is chic and minimal, with neatly laid wooden tables arranged over two floors. Contemporary Bollywood music creates a lively atmosphere, as do the flat-screen televisions playing Bollywood music videos.I passed on a starter, saving room for later, but my companion chose the tandoori swordfish, of which I couldnt resist more than a taste. The fish melted in the mouth, was spiced perfectly and served with a tangy sour sauce that complemented it beautifully. The restaurant has many tandoori grills on the menu and you can see why they consider it a speciality. To follow I was tempted by the Goan-style masala fish, which comprised substantial chunks of tuna cooked in a spicy sauce flavoured with coconut, while my companion went for a spicy lamb jalfrazi. We also ordered a vegetable side of tandoori roasted aubergine crush, with a thick melting texture and a lovely flavour. Although we also had some fluffy pilau rice, my companion couldnt resist a peshawari naan as well, again which I sampled for research sake, and we both agreed it was the finest naan wed ever tasted, with a home-baked taste and perfect sweetness. Full as we were, we finished our meal by sharing a mint chocolate ice cream parfait, just to cleanse the palate you understand, and then coffee. Tikka Flame serves fantastic and diverse Indian food in comfortable, stylish surroundings. Its location makes it a perfect place to start or end a night out without having to head back to the suburbs. Though with food like this, youll be wanting to visit at any time.
