© Food & Drink Guide The Cosmopolitan is the newest addition to the Leeds eating-out scene this is a restaurant and bar with a hotel, rather than the other way around, so all eyes are on the food. The exterior has a contemporary Continental feel, with tasteful awning and light-welcoming windows, while the interior design is a stylish collection of texture, pattern and fabric the overall effect is both welcoming and warm, with plenty to interest the eye even before you take a look at the menus. There is a distinct gastro feel to the food, with a splash of modern Mediterranean flavour thrown in, and a choice of menus to suit your mood and the time of day. The bar and caf menu is an ideal way to start a day hitting Leeds shopping centre, or great for enjoying while catching up with the Sunday papers, offering a selection of breakfasts perhaps a basket of freshly baked pastries, eggs Benedict or a bacon roll a number of teas and coffees, and even a classic cream tea if youre feeling naughty. The bar tit bits menu offers sociable sharing platters for two to six people (the hummus, taramasalata, baba ghanoush, grilled halloumi and Greek pitta number is my particular favourite) and plenty to nibble on while enjoying something from the well-stocked bar, which offers everything from a selection of cocktails to Champagne by the glass. On the main restaurant menu there are delicious starters, classic comfort dishes like cottage pie, steak burger and six or ten-ounce steaks fresh sunny salads, seafood creations and roasted dishes such as half a Gressingham duck, served crispy, basted with honey and orange, with Chinese greens and mashed potato. There are Italian pastas and plenty of snacks like doorstop sandwiches for a meal on the run. The wine list offers many bins by the glass as well as the bottle, and there is even a list of bubbly to add some sparkle to your evening. So, is The Cosmopolitan a Mediterranean-style caf, a bar, a grill restaurant or a boutique hotel dining room? I think its all of the above and more but youll have to drop in and find out for yourself.
